Nanaimo Brain Injury Society

NBIS provides assistance to persons with an acquired brain injury, their families and/or caregivers through education, advocacy and community support. Our programs include: Community Navigator, Education & Peer Support.

The Community Navigator is a professional who helps people affected by stroke, ABI and their caregivers by:

  • Answering questions asked by individuals surviving a brain injury or stroke and their caregivers and help them navigate the health care system
  • Linking them to resources and programs to assist with their long-term recovery
  • Assisting with self-management strategies to manage their brain injury, stroke and/or caregiving roles
  • Providing an opportunity to attend community education sessions for the person who had the brain injury and the caregiver

Our Education Program consists of presentations for schools and specialized groups, a variety of education workshops for clients and caregivers, and our “Understanding Brain Injury” public workshop.

Our Peer support includes a weekly drop in program and peer visitation for those in hospital.
